The System Office seeks a Visiting Assistant Director Digital Marketing to be responsible for creating, coordinating, and executing and/or stewarding execution of digital marketing strategies for the University of Illinois System, including social media, email and web strategies and practices ensuring that system branding, communication and marketing goals and messaging are integrated into our channel efforts. This position will manage social media platforms, including writing copy, creating and/or coordinating asset assets, monitoring and responding to comments and messages. Execute tactics across both organic and paid. The Visiting Assistant Director of Digital Marketing will work closely with other ERC communications professionals to ensure consistency in messaging, develop and monitor social listening strategy and measure, evaluate, and report out on performance. They will ensure best practices are followed in the management of the system social media platforms in all aspects from strategy and planning to performance optimization and measurement.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Active Management of System Social Media Platform Operations
  • Manage content and strategic application of current social media platforms for the University of Illinois System.
  • Develop practices, guidelines, and strategies to expand/increase social media interaction/participation with stakeholders, alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends of the system.
  • Make accurate and timely decisions about what information is of importance to the various stakeholders and translate critical messages into the format and style appropriate to various social media channels.
  • Research new and utilize currently available social media listening and data analytics tools to measure and monitor impact of key messaging through these channels.
  • Work closely with others to coordinate seamless management of content creation and distribution through system social media platforms.
  • Collaborate on multi-media assets needed for strategic social media content for the system.
  • Recruit, supervise and train student interns or academic hourlies to assist with social media content development and channel maintenance.
  • Under the guidance of the associate director of brand and marketing and other leadership, respond strategically, critically, and accurately to emerging crises on social media as related to the university brand.
  • Monitor system social media platforms for potential issues/risks to reputation, community safety, or other critical missions and advise leadership on appropriate mitigation actions and strategies.
  • Collaborate on strategy development for other system offices channels and coordinate with other social media managers across the system.
  • Work with videographers, graphic designers, and photographers to build strategic content for social media platforms.

  • Work with the Associate Director and the Marketing writer to develop and implement web content strategy and email marketing development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Work with writers, graphic design, and director on web design and content strategy.
  • Use analytic tools to create and monitor tag tracking and report on web performance, audiences, and strategies.
  • Work closely with institutional data experts on the system's data pages and provide narrative context and storytelling that complement the system's data points of pride.
  • Manage the system's Google brand and analytics ecosystem including, but not limited to Analytics, Search Console, My Business, Tag Manager, YouTube.
  • Track campaigns and monitor, evaluate, and report on web and social performance.

Education and experience

Required:

  1. Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or related field.
  2. Minimum of four years of professional experience in digital media management in a marketing or communications environment.
  3. Demonstrated expertise in using and knowledge of current social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram) for strategic communications or brand and reputation development.
  4. Highly creative with excellent analytical abilities.
  5. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Up to date on the latest trends and technologies in digital marketing. (social, email and web)

Preferred:

  1. Knowledge of and experience with utilizing web tracking technology (UTM codes, GA tags, etc.)
  2. Experience in the Google brand and analytics ecosystem.
  3. Familiarity with ADA and WCAG guidelines for digital accessibility.
  4. Demonstrated expertise in the use of current social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) to communicate strategic messages to targeted audiences. Also responsible for identifying which platforms and approaches are most appropriate and effective to meet varying strategic objectives. Should understand the relative strengths and weaknesses of various popular social media platforms, as well as an understanding of the general demographics of the users of these platforms.
  5. Strong knowledge of and expertise in social media and web-based analytic tools to provide data-based decision support around content generation and distribution strategies.
  6. Work effectively under tight deadline pressures and be able to respond quickly in the case of fast-breaking developments.
  7. Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team-based, dynamic environment that involves diverse group of developers, writers, designers, and videographers.
  8. Ability to be self-motivated, work independently, exercise good judgement, and prioritize tasks.
  9. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  10. Professionalism and ability to interact with senior administrative and academic officials.
  11. Oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills and organizational abilities.
  12. Must exercise excellent judgment and discretion, especially in the handling of confidential and/or sensitive issues and information.
