Discovery Partners Institute invites applicants to apply for the Workforce Education Program Advisor role. This position works under the direction of the Director of Workforce Education and offers an extraordinary opportunity for an emerging leader to partner with our team to accomplish a bold mission of changing the face of tech talent within the City of Chicago and State of Illinois.

 

This Workforce Education Program Advisor will excel at engaging and ensuring the success of potential and current students within the Pritzker Tech Talent Labs Workforce Development programs. It is the responsibility of role to develop and plan workforce education programs, counsel students into the appropriate pathway and support them along their learning journey to successfully complete their programs.

 

Additional responsibilities include:

 

  • Advise and manage students throughout their experience, with attention to student needs and challenges, maintaining contact with students from admission through successful completion, building relationships with them as well as partners.
  • Develop and implement programs, events, and services designed to increase student engagement and retention and facilitate progress to career advancement, working with various programs to conduct ongoing review of retention data, identify common trends and issues that impact retention rates.
  • Identify potential workforce program and career options appropriate for each student and assist with analysis of each option, including possible outcomes and implications.
  • Serve as lead workforce development program advisor for Discovery Partners Institute, organizing career advising mission and providing guidance.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for prospective and current student questions and concerns, effectively communicating the curriculum and requirements for programs as well as policies and procedures.
  • Assist with tracking and measuring outcomes and reach of the Workforce Development programmatic efforts.
  • Advise and connect potential and current participants with programs, services, guidance, and career pathways. Initiate referrals to programs or resources as needed.
  • Liaise the student and employer relationship to troubleshoot any potential issues that may arise.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Required:

Bachelor's degree in related field, with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.

Minimum of 6 years' experience required for consideration in the senior level.

Masters preferred.

 

  • Current UI employee
  • Minimum 3 years working in any capacity within career services or student case management, preferably in the areas of computing and technology
  • Experience with event management and implementation in any capacity
  • Excellent verbal, writing and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including relationship building, teamwork, and emotional intelligence
  • Experience working with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and an unwavering belief that all students can achieve at high levels
