Medical Transporter - Champaign - Shield IL

The function of this role is to transport medical supplies and specimens from client sites to laboratories. SHIELD Illinois runs several routes in Central/Southern IL to provide transport for our Covid-19 testing facilities. We are seeking a Medical Transporter who will pick up a vehicle in Champaign, IL on Saturdays at 11 a.m., they will then pick up samples in Bloomington-Normal, drop the samples off at our Springfield laboratory, and finally, return the vehicle to Champaign to complete the route around 3 p.m. There is the possibility that during summer testing and/or as the fall school session testing plans are created, there will be more hours and routes available for this role.

- Collect COVID specimens in triple closed containers from client sites

- Transport COVID specimens to molecular diagnostic laboratories for testing

- Unload specimens at laboratories and receive any signatures needed

- Transport medical supplies from warehouses or client sites to numerous locations

- Ensure safe arrival of costly medical supplies and equipment

- Communicate status of materials being transported to all relevant parties

- Any other transportation needs, as assigned

Education/Certificates/Licenses

Required:

-High school diploma or equivalent.

-Based on institutional requirements, current/valid driver's license for the type of vehicle(s) to be operated.

Knowledge and Experience

Required:

- Ability to ensure safe transportation of potentially infectious specimens for all parties involved

- Ability to adhere to all traffic laws and restrictions

- Ability to operate assigned vehicle in a safe manner at all times

- Reliability and commitment to work each Saturday during required shift (while providing advanced notice if unable to work)

 

Preferred:

- Good communication skills

- Ability to lift larger packages of 50 lbs. or less

- Some computer skills may be helpful

- Interest in a healthcare field
