Software Process and Support Specialist (Academic Hourly)

SHIELD Illinois is the screening testing program and infrastructure responsible for deploying the University of Illinois’ innovative, non-invasive, saliva test across the state.  Shield Illinois is in search of an ambitious/self-motivated go-getter who understands computer systems and is critical thinker/problem solver someone who can understand the process and figure out where it might have broken down.  Shield Illinois is working with their vendor to build software on the fly, so documentation is a little lacking.  This individual will work a minimum of 20/hrs per week, but could be 40 hours.

  • As part of the SHIELD IL Information Technology team, use experience to work in collaboration with the SHIELD IL laboratory staff, customers, and patient community to ensure the EHR systems meet the organization's overall clinical and business needs.
  • Participate in efforts to gather information from clinicians/ staff regarding clinical and operational workflows, as well as business goals and risks to define and document new healthcare application requirements.
  • Assist application teams in development of design and required documentation. Analyze business processes and reengineer those processes to improve business and/or clinical needs, identifying the upstream and downstream impacts.
  • Learn new tools, components, and functionalities within healthcare applications. Propose software modifications and document changes to designs, tools, components, functionalities, and processes.
  • Plan, review, perform, and test new software releases, ensuring adherence to the testing policies and procedures for application team members. Develop and follow plans to collect information regarding potential system enhancement needs and coordinates preparation of specifications as needed.
  • Engage with vendors and maintain vendor relationships. Participate in analysis of vendor solutions and enforce vendor service level agreements (SLA). Contact vendor to resolve issues.
  • Identify areas for improvement and serve as key contributor in the development of new/improved policies, procedures, or work practices. Coordinate the input of others.
  • Participate in mentoring and training staff to ensure successful on-boarding and professional development.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.
  • At least six months of relevant experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external clients.

 

Pay rate: $31/hr. 

Schedule: 20 hrs/wk minimum, up to 40 hrs

Locations: Chicago/Urbana
